Multiple People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unauthorized Event Ends in Shooting

Late Saturday evening, an unapproved gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Park in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood descended into chaos when between 20 and 25 shots were discharged as law enforcement officers were attempting to clearing the crowd.

What Happened

Shortly after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received calls reporting persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the Arden-Arcade park. A second report mentioned a reported fight and subjects running away.

Law enforcement air support was called in and surveyed the area from above but was unable to locate any physical confrontation.

However, an estimated several hundred attendees had congregated at Howe Park for what deputies referred to as an unsanctioned event. Law enforcement personnel set up around the park, switched on their vehicle lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave using public address systems.

As law enforcement was clearing the area, 20 to 25 rounds of gunfire filled the night air — triggering a panicked crowd in panic.

Shooting Victims

Four gunshot victims — three men and one woman, each in their 20s — were transported to area hospitals. Two were classified with immediate injuries, one was classified with moderate injuries, and one had minor injuries. All four were said to be in stable condition. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District provided medical assistance at the park.

Scene Details

The crime scene was located on the Cottage Way side side of the park near the nearby Home Depot here at the 2200 block. The Home Depot was briefly placed on lockdown. Additional spent casings were recovered from Cottage Way, with bullet holes found in the metal fence surrounding the Home Depot — showing shots fired in a southward direction from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot parking lot. Detectives and CSI personnel processed evidence at the scene overnight.

The Suspect Vehicle

Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was more info confirmed that a vehicle connected to the shooting — identified click here as a Kia — was intercepted in Solano County with four people in custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's Office units were traveling to collect those detained and return them to Sacramento County for questioning. Video evidence confirmed two gunmen were present.
